The first time anyone saw the Earth in its full roundness was in 1968 when Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and Bill Anders became the first humans to go to the moon. They orbited ten times and took the famous photo of a half-Earth, rising over the bleak moonscape. That picture changed my life.
When I saw the whole Earth, the realization was visceral. From that perspective, there is no separation. No separation between nations or cultures or peoples. We are all in that picture—even those not yet alive! Awareness of that inclusiveness has enlivened my life, my work and my play ever since. I truly believe that we are all One.
It is this awareness that informs my music.
